Discover the Heart of Botswana: Central Kalahari Game Reserve

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is one of the largest and most remote game reserves in the world, offering an extraordinary safari experience for those seeking adventure off the beaten path. Spanning over 50,000 square kilometers of arid terrain, this vast wilderness is often described as the soul of Botswana’s desert landscape.

The reserve is a dramatic contrast of golden grasslands, shifting dunes, salt pans, and scattered waterholes, where life persists against the harsh backdrop of the Kalahari Desert.

Despite its seemingly desolate appearance, the Central Kalahari is teeming with wildlife, especially during the rainy season. The reserve's fluctuating seasonal changes bring life to the plains, drawing herds of wildebeest and springbok, while the cooler dry season provides a quieter yet equally fascinating opportunity to observe the area's resilient desert-adapted animals.

What truly sets the CKGR apart is its isolation and seclusion—allowing for an authentic and undisturbed experience in one of the world's most remote wildernesses.

Here, you can witness the elusive Kalahari lions, including larger than usual manes and a surprising ability to survive in the harshest conditions. The landscape is also home to leopards, wild dogs, cheetahs, brown hyenas, and the playful meerkats, all of which thrive in this arid environment.

When to visit:

The best time to visit Central Kalahari is in the dry season when animals congregate around remaining water sources including the very small number of waterholes in the park.

September and October see extreme heat and June and July are relatively cold.
